African swine fever continues to spread across multiple regions. The World Organisation for Animal Health reports that the disease has affected Asia, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Its impact extends beyond mortality to herd rebuilding, trade, cash flow and producer confidence. At the same time, PRRS, PED and enteric diseases continue to cause chronic losses in many countries. For swine professionals worldwide, the key question is not simply which pathogen is present. It is how that pathogen behaves under different farm structures, transport systems, veterinary services, diagnostic capacity and management execution—and which controls can remain effective under those conditions.

Global swine health requires more than a generic checklist. It requires a clear understanding of how transmission patterns, surveillance capacity and operational constraints differ across production systems. The regional forum is the starting point for a three-day disease-control programme. On the afternoon of October 22, 2026, sessions will continue with PRV, ileitis, Mycoplasma, PRRSV sequencing and the establishment of high-health herds. Breakout sessions on October 23, 2026, will address PRRSV evolution, surveillance for emerging strains and PED biosecurity. On October 24, the programme will move into biosecurity changes for novel PRRS strains, less-invasive sampling, risk factors for wild-type virus introductions, and respiratory and enteric diseases after weaning.

This structure allows delegates to follow a complete chain of decisions: how a new signal is detected, how diagnostic results are interpreted, how stabilisation or elimination is selected, and how biosecurity should change in response.
