Dr. John Patience retired from Iowa State University in 2021 and was appointed Professor Emeritus of Animal Science at that time. From 2008 to 2021, he was an Associate Professor/Full Professor/Interim Department Chair in the Department of Animal Science and from 1991 to 2008, he was President and CEO of Prairie Swine Centre Inc., a non-profit, public research institution affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Patience has extensive experience in both applied and basic research related to swine nutrition, including energy and amino acid metabolism, the role of minerals in acid-base balance, water quality and requirements, and ingredient evaluation. He continues to serve as a consultant nationally and internationally within the farming and agribusiness communities and government agencies. His current scientific interests include the complex subject of energy utilization by the pig, the impact of fiber and other functional dietary components on animal health and performance and the important but often misunderstood role of water in pig nutrition. John is a Fellow of both the American and Canadian Societies of Animal Science.
