He obtained his BS in Animal Science from Utah State University and obtained his MS and PhD in Swine Nutrition from University of Nebraska

He currently is the owner of DSP Consulting LLC after retiring from Murphy-Brown LLC (subsidiary of Smithfield Foods) in May, 2014.  Works with clients on product development and swine production improvement. He also worked as Senior Vice President, Support Operations, in Murphy-Brown LLC (responsible for all support operations domestically and international businesses). He also was the president of Western Operations of Murphy-Brown LLC, the general manager of Circle Four Farms in UT and the vice president of research and technology for Consolidated Nutrition (previously Central Soya).

He also got awarded the 2012 Master Pork Industry Leader and the chairman of animal science committee at the National Pork Board
